The GEAR Program is NextGen UCSF’s girls-only flag football initiative — designed specifically to break down gender barriers in this fast-growing sport and give girls the skills, resources, and opportunities to thrive. While RISE opens doors across all sports, GEAR focuses solely on flag football, creating a dedicated space where girls can compete, lead, and shine.
GEAR empowers young female athletes to give their all, equip themselves with skills and confidence, aspire to reach new heights, and rise as leaders in sports and in life. We create a safe, inclusive environment where girls can develop their talents, build resilience, and experience the teamwork, discipline, and respect that define true champions.
What GEAR provides:
- No-cost or low-cost participation for leagues and/or tournaments
- Access to equipment, uniforms, and safe playing environments which may include custom GEAR-branded Flag Football kits designed for performance and pride
- Dedicated girls’ flag football leagues and clinics led by supportive, skilled coaches
- Mentorship from female athletes and leaders who inspire by example
- Skill-building programs that emphasize strategy, sportsmanship, and self-belief
- Opportunities to lead both on and off the field
By supporting GEAR, donors help us ensure that every girl in our program has the resources, role models, and opportunities to thrive in flag football — proving that when we give, equip, aspire, and rise, we elevate the game for girls and provide a pathway for success on and off the field.
When girls have GEAR, they have everything they need to play, lead, and rise together.
